Side Effects of Ofloxacin

Ofloxacin is an antibiotic, which is being used to treat gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It actually stops the growth of bacteria in a disease through which a patient can easily recover from that infection. These infections include urinary tract infection, burning urine, diarrhea, cold, flu, pneumonia, skin and soft tissue infection, prostate, influenza, and pain in the bladder, etc. Do not use Ofloxacin if you are hypersensitive to quinolone antibiotics. The famous brand name of Ofloxacin is Floxin.

If you do not feel good during the first few days, you need to take ciprOfloxacin or levOfloxacin, or Moxifloxacin to get a higher dosage. In normal cases, Ofloxacin is being used as the first drug of choice to treat urinary tract infections and common cold diseases. Missed Dose

Take as soon as possible your missed dose and also you can miss your dose if it is near the time of the next dose.  Secondly, do not double your dose to fulfill previous doses.

Overdose Symptoms

Overdose symptoms include nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, numbness and swelling of hands and face, confusion, dizziness, blurred vision, etc.

Side Effects of Ofloxacin 200mg and 400mg

Before taking Ofloxacin, you should know its side effects, because it can cause tendinitis or tendon rupture. Tendinitis is an inflammation part of the tendon, which is a thick fibrous cord attached with muscle to bone. It causes pain and inflammation around your knees, elbows, and on your shoulders. It also causes rheumatoid arthritis, in which you feel pain in joints and muscles. Therefore do not use Ofloxacin tablets for more than 1 month. Secondly, do not give Ofloxacin to elder peoples or age more than 60 years, because their bones and muscles are weak.

Secondly, all those patients who are facing kidney, lungs, and heart problems do not use Ofloxacin as well. Call your doctor, if you feel pain in joints, swelling, and muscle pain after oral administration of Ofloxacin.

Thirdly, if you are allergic to quinolone or fluoroquinolone antibiotics, such as Ofloxacin, CiprOfloxacin, and Levofloxacin just tell your doctor and pharmacist, so he/she can give you the medicine accordingly. And you should also mention all those antibiotics and vitamins you are currently taking.

Nervous System Disorder: Ofloxacin also affects your brain and your nervous system. Side effects of Ofloxacin in the nervous system include seizures, cerebral arteriosclerosis, dizziness, headache, nightmare, epilepsy, hallucination, anxiety, tremors, and strokes.

Musculoskeletal: Ofloxacin directly affects muscles and joints. It causes muscle weakness, pain in joints, pain in muscles, and pain in the knee, which leads to difficulty in breathing.

Gastrointestinal: In the gastrointestinal Ofloxacin can cause diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, gas trouble, stomach cramps, and pain in the stomach.

It also damages the liver and kidneys as well.  


Do not use Ofloxacin if you are allergic to quinolone antibiotics, such as ciprOfloxacin and levOfloxacin, etc. Secondly, do not use Ofloxacin if you have lung, kidney, and heart problems. It also affects blood sugar; therefore check your blood sugar regularly.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Animal studies had shown a high risk of damage to the fetus and therefore do not use Ofloxacin in pregnancy and lactation. Ofloxacin passes into breast milk, therefore, do not breastfeed your child while taking this medicine.
