Polyfex Uses, Side Effects and In Pregnancy

Polyfax is produced by GSK, which contains polymyxin sulphate + bacitracin zinc + petrolatum base. It is an antibiotic agent that is being used for superficial skin infection. Which includes prophylaxis in burns, surgical incisions, accidental cuts, graft donor sites, scratches and abrasions, therapeutic use in primarily infected dermatoses such as bacterial otitis externa, folliculitis, ecthyma, paronychia. In secondarily infected dermatoses, such as infected eczema, scabies, viral infection, infected ulcers, acne scars, etc.

Contraindications

Patients who are hypersensitive to polymyxin B sulphaate, bacitracin zinc, or to cross sensitizing substance should not use this ointment.

Pregnancy and lactation

The clinical benefit of treatment to the patient must be balanced against any possible but unknown hazards to the developing foetus.

Side Effects

Rare, application site hypersensitivity including urticaria, irritation, application site reactions including pain, oedma, burning sensation, pruritis, erythema, blister, scaling, skin discoloration.
