Piriton contains Chlorpheniramine, Sodium Citrate, and Glycerin, which is an antihistamine used for common allergies, typhus, primary atypical pneumonia, bacillary and amoebic dysentery enteritis, pollen allergy, meningitis, scarlet fever, wound infections abscesses, venereal lymphogranuloma, influenza neurotic syphilis, hay fever, food allergy, and insect’s bites, etc. It also resists against infections caused by penicillin gram-positive bacteria. It is also being used for dog and cat allergies.
Composition
Chlorpheniramine: It is an antihistaminic agent, which contains gamma-(4-chlorophenyl)-N, N-dimethyl-2 pyridinepropanamine. It is primarily being used for the indication and treatment of advanced ovarian cancer, chronic urticaria, acute urticaria, allergic conjunctivitis, atopic dermatitis, sneezing, allergy, and also being used as an alternative medicine for the common cold.
Sodium Citrate: It is an expectorant, which is being used in upper respiratory tract infection, such as sneezing, cough, allergy, throat pain, etc. It is also being used in constipation.
Glycerin: Glycerin is a liquid obtained as a by-product of soap, by carbohydrate fermentation, and by propylene synthesis. It is being used for softening skin and also being used in constipation.
Side Effects
Some come side effects of chlorpheniramine include, drowsiness, inability to concentrate, lassitude, headache, dizziness, dryness of mouth, etc. Some sever and irreversible site effects include sinus tachycardia, jaundice, hypertension, CNS stimulation, and bone marrow suppression, etc. Overdose adverse reactions include convulsions, coma, hypotension, urinary retention, dryness of mucous and fever, etc.
High-Risk Group: Chlorpheniramine should not be given to geriatrics, pediatrics, and neonates, etc.
Warning: Chlorpheniramine may cause drowsiness; therefore you should not operate machinery and other tasks.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to antihistamines or to any of the constituents, also contraindicated in patients who had monoamine oxidase inhibitor therapy within the previous 14 days.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Chlorpheniramine is not recommended for pregnant and lactation mothers. Tell your doctor, if you are pregnant.
