Nilstat oral drops are produced by ICI, which contains Nystatin. It is an antibiotic with antifungal activity produced by a strain of streptomyces nousei. This antifungal medicine is also being used to treat oral candidiasis or thrush caused by fungus candida, which creates sore, raised patches creamy-yellow patches in the mouth, diaper rash, esophageal candidiasis. Nystatin stops the growth of fungus in the mouth. Secondly, it is also being used in vaginal yeast infections.
This cherry flavored suspension contains 100,000 units of nystatin per ml with propylparaben (0.03%) and methylparaben (0.12%) as preservatives. It is being used for the indications of the oral cavity caused by candida (monilia) Albicans.
How to use Nystatin?
You can go with your doctor’s advice or you can follow this processor.
First of all, you should shake well before use. Now you can apply a few drops in your mouth and swish it or gargle and keep the liquid in your mouth for some time. You have two choices either you can spit or swallow. It’s better to spit if you gargle too much. You can repeat this processor 2-3 times a day depending on your condition.
Side Effects
Some common side effects of nystatin include nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal distress, mouth irritation, diarrhea, etc. Nystatin is somehow tolerable but if you find any allergic reaction such as a fast heartbeat, muscle pain, or wheezing, just call your doctor.
