Britanyl, Best Syrup for Chronic Asthma Cough

Britanyl is produced by Barrett Hodgson, which contains terbutaline sulphate. It is a selective bronchodilator for Chronic Asthma Cough, Asthma, Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema.  It is also being used for other lung diseases where bronchospasm is a complicating factor.

For Bronchodilation: Should be used as maintenance therapy in asthma and other pulmonary diseases where bronchospasm is a complicating factor. The dosage should be individualized for any patient.

Side Effects

Tremors, headache, tonic muscle cramps and palpitations. These are all characteristic of sympathomimetic amines. In children sleep disturbance and disturbance of behavioural effects have been observed. Potentially serious hypklemia may result.

Terbutaline sulphate has not been approved for and should not be used for prolonged tocolysis (beyond 48-72 hours). In particular terbutaline sulphate should not be used for maintenance tocolysis in outpatient or home setting.

Terbutaline sulphate is contraindicated in patients known to be hypersensitive to sympathominetic amines or any component of the drug product.

Pregnancy and lactation

No teratogenic effects have been observed in animals or patients. However, caution should be exercised during the first trimester of pregnancy. Britanyl is excreted in breast milk. An influence on the suckling child is however unlikely at therapeutic doses.
