Warning: Misoprostol can cause abortion, birth defects and it can also cause premature birth of a baby. Do not give this medicine to pregnant women. It should not be used in women of childbearing potential unless the patient requires and a doctor’s advice. It creates a high risk of developing gastric and duodenal ulceration. It can cause serious gastrointestinal toxicity which leads to bleeding, ulceration, and perforation, etc. This medicine is mostly being given to women. Male can use Misoprostol along with Diclofenac Sodium together in order to reduce pain and ulceration.
Pharmacology
Breeky 200mcg is produced by SAMI Pharmaceuticals, it contains Misoprostol. It has to inhibit gastric acid secretion and mucosal properties. It belongs to a hormone called prostaglandins, which can cause contractions and opening of the cervix. It is a synthetic prostaglandin E1 analog, which is being used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers and also being used in delivery and abortion. It inhibits gastric acid secretion stimulates from food, histamine, alcohol, and caffeine, etc. Nowadays it is mostly being used as an alternative drug of choice in the termination of pregnancy.
Pregnant women do not use it without your Gynaecologist’s advice, because after administration of Misoprostol, it leads to strong contractions.
FDA has approved Misoprostol in December 1988 and considered to be nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID).
Gynecological Indication
- In the prevention and treatment of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH)
- Labor induction (In unfavorable cervical conditions)
Dosage and Administration
To reduce the risk of NSAID-Induced gastric ulcers, the recommended adult oral dose is 200mcg four times daily with food. The last dose of the day should be at bedtime.
Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), 600mcg orally or rectally after delivery
Induction of labor, 25mg vaginally every 4-6 hours or 25mcg orally every 2 hours

Side Effects of Breeky Misoprostol 200mcg
Gastrointestinal: Diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, duodenitis, eructation, dyspepsia, esophagitis flatulence, nausea, gastritis, and sometimes vomiting also occur.
Female Reproductive System: Breast pain, intermenstrual bleeding, dysmenorrhea, cramping, vaginitis, and vaginal bleeding, etc.
Kidney: As a class NSAIDs with renal pathology such as papillary necrosis, nephritic, intestinal nephritis and renal failure, etc.
Liver: Significant elevations of SGPT, SGOT, and alkaline phosphatase have been observed without the hepatic disease.
Cardiovascular Risk: NSAIDs can cause an increased risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, strokes, and myocardial infarction.
Other Adverse Effects: Dizziness, headache, pruritus, skin rashes, bullous eruption, edema, hepatitis, stomatitis. In rare cases, blurred vision and insomnia may occur.
Overdosage
Overdose of Misoprostol can cause tremor, sedation, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dyspnea, fever, hypotension, and palpitations may occur.
Precautions
Do not give Misoprostol to patients who are hypersensitive to NSAID drugs. Also, hypertension might precipitate severe complications e.g, cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases.
Contraindications
Do not give Breeky 200mg tablet to pregnant women. Secondly, Breeky should not be taken by anyone with a history of allergy to prostaglandins.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Because of the abortifacient properties of Breeky, it is contraindicated in women who are pregnant. It can cause miscarriages and serious bleeding. Therefore do not give or use Misoprostol in pregnancy and lactation.
